Art needs special focus. Setting aside a good pocket of time to devote yourself to your art can refresh and inspire all your career and artistic objectives. Our Weekend Intensive Workshops give you four sessions in one weekend – like a month of evening classes in a highly focused form. During the year we offer

- monthly workshops in essentials of the Michael Chekhov Acting Technique

- monthly workshops in playing with the Michael Chekhov Acting Technique

This Weekend Intensive will havea special focus on developing characters. We will explore the tools that help us envision, invent, and interpret our characters, bringing our creative ideas into fully engaged and connected embodiment so that we feel truthful and expressive in our playing of the character.

Students will work on a character of their choice and can work with a character from a play, musical or opera, a filmscript, or non-scripted material such as a short story or novel. While we will use ensemble exercises to warm-up and learn Chekhov's tools for characterization, much time will be spent on guided individual exploration. Those getting ready to start a production process can use this workshop to begin laying a foundation for their character, while those not yet in a production might use this workshop to prepare an audition character or just play a character they really want to work on!

GENERAL WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS:

ESSENTIALS OF THE MICHAEL CHEKHOV ACTING TECHNIQUE

These introductory Weekend Intensive Workshops are for actors and teachers who are exploring this approach for the first time, or delving into the primary lessons again to focus on essentials. We start by working with Chekhov's ideas on preparing the actor's body and awareness and then continue to develop the actor's creative process - the tools for characterization such as Qualities, Centers, Imaginary Body, and the Psychological Gesture. Each actor works on a character of his/her choice. All the explorations are done in an ensemble environment, supporting the individual actor's explorations in a way that moves easily to interaction, demonstrating Chekhov's ideas on the use of improvisation for learning the character and rehearsing.

Fee: $200

PLAYING WITH THE MICHAEL CHEKHOV ACTING TECHNIQUE

These Weekend Intensive Workshops for the continuing student of the Chekhov Technique explore facets of playing with the tools of the Chekhov approach, developing the actor’s confidence and skill. Each month the Weekend Intensive Workshop has a special artistic focus, all with the goal of renewing your artistic energies and supporting your acting life. (Students must have taken the equivalent of one introductory weekend intensive to take a continuing workshop.)
