For new and continuing students of the Chekhov Technique.

The Six Week Class is training in the principles of the technique as found in Chekhov’s book, To The Actor, seeing how the technique works in a practical way for theatre and film.

Each session includes training of the ‘actor’s body’, characterization with imaginative improvisational exploration using Chekhov’s guiding points of focus (Leading Questions), and work on solo or partnered scenes. Partnered scenes will be chosen from scripts that interest the participants.

The Chekhov approach to acting is also a dynamic approach to rehearsing. We will explore how to rehearse using the tools of the technique. As we work in an ensemble format, you will be working on your character and scene in each class. There will be time for each actor to perform individually during the course of the explorations. Scenes will be worked in class every session and performed in progress for the class.

Actors should think of these studio classes as a way to prepare, a place to experiment, and a dedicated environment for the development of their art. These classes may be repeated for ongoing study.

Class fee: $240 / $180 for Studio Members* For registration information and to sign up email us at info@movingdock.org

Weekend Intensive Workshop – Chekhov Studio Chicago – 01/04/13 – Chicago, IL

Event Weekend Intensive Workshop When Friday, January 4, 2013 1:00pm – 16+ Where Chekhov Studio Chicago (map) 2135 W Wilson (Christian Community Church) Chicago, IL 60625 Other InfoJANUARY 4 & 5, 2013 THE THIRD STAGE AND THE THREE SISTERS TECHNIQUE FRIDAY, 1- 6:00 PM with a short break SATURDAY 10:00 – 4:30 PM with a lunch break

For continuing students of Chekhov Technique.

Inspired by our recent Four Stages Workshop where we explored the four stages of the creative process, we realized that there is a need for more actors, theatre teachers, and directors to have opportunity to apply the tools of the Chekhov Technique to rehearsal. So we are beginning the New Year with a Weekend Intensive Workshop devoted to rehearsing with the Chekhov Technique. We will bring into this rehearsal the acting focal point that Michael Chekhov called the ‘three sisters’ – falling, floating, and balancing – to unify our ensemble effort.

The first two stages of the creative process are addressed in most introductory Chekhov Technique workshops: the preparation of the actor’s instrument and the effective tools of the technique. If you are new to the technique, we invite you to our other Weekend Intensives and Monday Technique Class to learn all about the Chekhov Technique.

If you have taken other workshops at Chekhov Studio Chicago or elsewhere, we warmly invite you to this special workshop, an artistic retreat to come together to rehearse a play with the Chekhov Technique.
