The Michael Chekhov Acting Technique

Moving Dock’s art begins in workshop. We train in the approach of Michael Chekhov and use that creative process to develop our new shows. We welcome actors and theatre teachers to workshop with us in Chicago. Weekend Intensive Workshops give actors a way to continue to develop their art.

The Michael Chekhov Acting Technique allows us to move and be moved by the imagination. Our imaginative, mental, and physical abilities interact as we explore the essential elements of our human stories. We find ever new goals for our acting as we continue to discover more of our expressive selves. This leads us to our theatre – a theatre built from the center, the core of the character.

Weekend Intensive Workshops

Our Weekend Intensive Workshops offer Chicago actors, theatre teachers and professionals, and out of town students a focused, in-depth time to awaken inner energies, explore creatively, and develop characters. Our workshops are taught by Dawn Arnold, Michael Chekhov Association (MICHA) Master Teacher. These workshops continue and augment training done through MICHA or can prepare students to participate in MICHA workshops.

Training in Chekhov’s concepts is developed in a layering process of skills as they are repeated in a journey of workshop experiences. Each Intensive covers essential concepts of Chekhov’s Technique for both new and continuing students. Several concepts are chosen to orient each workshop which is specially designed for the experience and needs of the participants.

Upcoming Weekend Intensive Workshop  September 17 & 18

Friday evening 7-10, Saturday 10-4

Getting back to basics with a workshop on the many facets of the Psychological Gesture, the gem of Chekhov’s Technique. We will explore the flow of inner energy of the Psychological Gesture and how our imagination brings us to an understanding of what our character’s gestures could be. Actors will work with characters/plays of their choice.

Fee: $150 There is a 20% discount if registered by Sept 6.

Moving Dock’s Studio on the Move

Moving Dock’s Studio is on the move. Moving Dock workshops in the Michael Chekhov Acting Technique and in our theatrical creative process  are also available to schools (high school and college) and theatre companies through our Guest Workshops and Residencies.
